2008 Biodiversity Forum
On the 13 and 14th of May, over 180 DSE staff from across Victoria working on biodiversity and ecosystems, came together for the 2008 Biodiversity Forum at the Hotel Ibis in Melbourne. The forum was a unique opportunity for DSE staff to exchange information and ideas on a range of policy, research and operational issues relating to Victorian biodiversity management.
Peter Harris, the DSE secretary, officially opened the forum and highlighted the importance of such events in the provision of opportunities for staff to collectively reflect on current priorities in order to develop more innovative and effective approaches for biodiversity management.
The event involved nine sessions with each involving two or more presenters addressing a key issue in the management and protection of Victoria's biodiversity assets.
The nine sessions included:
- Native Vegetation management
- Turning policy into law
- Managing Threatening processes and threatened species
- Wildlife Utilisation and Compliance
- Evidence Based Policy Development
- Market Based Approaches
- Integrating Priorities for Conservation
- Engagement and Communication with Stakeholders
- Improving Statewide Biodiversity Service Delivery
