New Investigations for VEAC
The Minister for Environment and Climate Change will request that two new investigations be conducted by the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council (VEAC). The new investigations will commence at the end of the River Red Gum Forests Investigation which is due for completion on 31 July 2008.
Metropolitan Melbourne Investigation
An investigation of Crown land and public authority land in metropolitan Melbourne, focusing on land not committed to a specific use; and opportunities for Crown land to enhance Melbourne’s liveability.
Remnant Native Vegetation Investigation
A Statewide assessment of remnant native vegetation on Crown land and public authority land across Victoria, to identify opportunities for ecological linkages between largely-intact landscapes and report on the contribution of these lands to biodiversity conservation, recreation activities and community uses.
Proposed terms of reference for these two investigations were publicly advertised for comment on April 19 2008. Comments received were analysed and informed the development of the final terms of reference.
