About

In Our Environment, Our Future - Victoria’s Sustainability Action Statement (2006) the government announced that it would renew the Victorian Biodiversity Strategy (1997).

The Strategy will be a separate document to the Land and biodiversity at a time of climate change White Paper.

The Strategy will consolidate the Government’s approach to protecting Victoria’s biodiversity by taking account of the policy directions proposed in the White Paper and providing a more detailed framework for their implementation.

Victoria’s Biodiversity Strategy will be renewed during 2008-09.

Organisations and individuals will have opportunities for input to development of the Strategy.
  • They are encouraged to express their views about a future biodiversity strategy through the Green Paper consultation process.
  • The draft Strategy, which will be ready around the end of 2008, will be advertised and open for public comment for a minimum of 30 days.
  • In addition, individuals can take the opportunity to contribute via peak organisations, which will be engaged in development of the Strategy.

The 1997 Victorian Biodiversity Strategy has been evaluated.
